Due to persistent winter weather conditions with heavy snowfall, frost and icy surfaces, significant disruptions are currently affecting the seaports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Hamburg. In the Netherlands, weather-related incidents are also impacting rail operations.
In the western ports, several terminals have suspended operations:
Affected terminals in Rotterdam
- RWG
- HPD2
- CETEM
- RST (North and South)
- Kramer Maasvlakte
- City Terminal
Affected terminals in Antwerp
- 1700
- 1718
- 1742
- 869
- 913
In the Port of Hamburg, the weather situation is causing further restrictions: container handling has been partially suspended, trains are being held back, and significant delays are occurring.
In the Port of Rotterdam, several track sections on the port railway as well as in the Kijfhoek marshalling yard are out of service until further notice due to defective switches. Overall, rail traffic in the Netherlands is severely affected by the weather conditions.
Outlook
At present, there is no confirmed information on when operations at the affected terminals will resume. Current weather forecasts predict further snowfall, icy conditions and strong winds over the coming days. A sustained improvement in the situation is therefore not expected before the coming weekend.
Contargo is continuously monitoring the situation and remains in close contact with terminal operators. We will keep you informed promptly about any new developments and possible impacts.
