At the beginning of September, the Dutch trade union FNV has announced two strike actions that are expected to have an impact on freight transport and our intermodal connections.
Friday, 4 September – Strike in Dutch seaports
A strike in the Dutch seaports has been announced for 4 September. Based on the current situation, we expect terminal activities in Rotterdam to be severely restricted or completely suspended between approximately 10:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
During this period, we expect, among other things:
- no truck handling;
- no internal transport operations;
- no loading or unloading of shuttle trains;
- restrictions on the provision and collection of trains.
This will also affect our rail connections. At present, we expect that some scheduled round trips may have to be cancelled as a result.
As soon as it is clear which departures will be specifically affected, we will inform you.
Wednesday, 9 September – 24-hour strike in the rail sector
For 9 September 2026, FNV has also announced a nationwide 24-hour strike in the rail sector. Employees of ProRail and DB Cargo will be among those affected.
As a result, train cancellations, delays and disruptions to rail freight transport to and from the Netherlands are to be expected. Connections via the Betuweroute and the corridors towards Germany may be particularly affected.
We recommend that you take potential delays on 4 and 9 September, as well as in the days following the strikes, into account in your transport planning.
