From Friday, April 17, 2026, 10:00 PM until approximately June 5, 2026, the bridge complex in Duisburg-Ruhrort (OB-Karl-Lehr Bridge) will be completely closed for around seven weeks. During this period, traffic will be diverted over a wide area.
The reason for the closure is the so-called transverse shifting of the new bridge structures into their final position, followed by their connection to the existing road and tram network. These works make a full closure of the bridge complex necessary.
During the closure, traffic to Duisburg-Ruhrort will be rerouted extensively. As a result, significant traffic disruptions are expected throughout the entire city area.
Impact on our services:
Delays are expected in truck positioning and (empty) container returns.
The diversion route communicated by the City of Duisburg significantly increases travel distances. At present, DIT does not plan to pass on the additional detour or extra mileage costs, but asks for your understanding that this decision will be continuously reviewed, given the currently unclear extent of the impact and the possibility of construction work being extended.
To keep operations as stable as possible, we kindly ask you—where your scheduling allows—to reduce or, if possible, avoid the pickup and return of containers for Hutchison Ports Duisburg and DGT during this period.
We thank you for your understanding and support.
We will keep you informed about further developments. As usual, your DIT contacts remain available for any questions.
