Contargo receives first Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 customer vehicle

In Wörth am Rhein, Contargo has received the first battery-driven electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 customer vehicle. Contargo will use the vehicle for container transports in Wörth and the surrounding region, where it will be travelling more than 800 kilometres per day.

E also stands for earliest– yet again, Contargo has been first to recognise an opportunity in the area of e-mobility. Contargo is starting practical testing of the first Mercedes eActros 600 test vehicle. According to manufacturer’s specifications, the vehicle has a battery capacity of 600 kilowatt hours and an especially effective electric drive shaft, giving it a range of up to 500 kilometres without the need for “top-up” recharging.

At the same time as Contargo, Remondis received a test vehicle, and other enterprises will be joining them, so that around 50 eActros 600 will be undergoing practical testing.

The start of serial production is planned for the end of 2024. Michael Starke, Managing Director of Rhenus Trucking (a company in the Contargo Group) says: “We will be taking over Vehicle No.1. And last year we placed a binding order for 20 of these vehicles. Thus we will be among the first to put them into extensive operation on the roads.”

Then the eActros 600 will be capable of megawatt charging as well as using the present CCS charging system of up to 400 kW. At the relevant charging poles, the batteries will be able to recharge from 20 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes.
