Intermodal Terminal at Straubing-Sand Port Officially Opened

Since September 1, 2025, Contargo has counted 25 container terminals within its own network. On September 30, the bimodal site was officially inaugurated in the presence of representatives from politics and business.

After years of planning and a very short but intensive construction phase, Ulrich Lange, Member of the Bundestag and Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport, together with representatives from politics and business, officially put the new terminal for combined transport at Straubing-Sand Port into operation on September 30. The project is being supported by the federal government with around 19 million euros, which corresponds to about 79 percent of the eligible total investment.

With Contargo CombiTrac Straubing-Sand GmbH, a joint venture between Contargo and SFI GmbH, an outstanding operator has been secured, bringing the expertise and network necessary to ensure the best conditions for successful operations. To carry out the demanding construction project on schedule, Josef Rädlinger Bauunternehmen GmbH from Cham, an experienced regional partner, was brought on board.

The new terminal significantly strengthens Straubing-Sand Port’s market position as the most powerful freight transport hub in Lower Bavaria. Covering a total area of more than 50,000 m², it enables the efficient transshipment of containers between road and rail for shippers in industry and thereby enhances the overall location quality of the entire region.
