Contargo consolidates its position in France

Despite a strongly subdued market in the seaports, 2023 was a successful year for Contargo in France.

Many developments contributed to last year’s positive results: In northern France, in the river system of the Hauts-de-France region, Contargo North France started running a new container barge line with two round trips per week between the seaports of Antwerp and Rotterdam and the multimodal terminal in Dourges, and also put a third large vessel into operation. The enterprise succeeded in increasing the volume of its transports by 1.5 percent compared to 2022, thus consolidating its position as a regional hub for barge container transports. It also remains the most important terminal in France to be operated by a purely private enterprise.

In Alsace Contargo Sàrl and its predecessor CCS – Combined Container Service – celebrated forty years of presence in France. Since 1983 the enterprise in Alsace has been expanding its offer of multimodal container transports by barge and rail between the Upper Rhine and the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp.

At the end of 2023 Contargo Süd increased the frequency of the Basel-Westport-Shuttle to five round trips per week. This rail transport connects the inland port in Weil am Rhein with Rotterdam and Antwerp.
