On 24 September 2024 at the trade show Shipping Technics Logistics 2024 (STL Kalkar), Rhenus PartnerShip and Contargo received the “Innovationspreis Binnenschifffahrt 2024” for their sustainable concepts in barge construction and trimodal transport. The prize is awarded by Allianz Esa GmbH and the specialist journals “SUT Schifffahrt und Technik” and “Binnenschifffahrt”.
Dirk Gemmer, Managing Director of Rhenus Transport, to which Rhenus PartnerShip is affiliated, and Jürgen Albersmann, CEO of Contargo, received the prize at an award ceremony.
Reasons for making the award included the statement that “by sustainable cross-company concepts in ship construction and the trimodal transport of containers, both enterprises have become pioneers and pacesetters in the development of climate-neutral transportation along the whole transport chain in Germany and Europe.” Furthermore, “Both enterprises have opened up new paths for emission reduction in combined transport on the way to climate neutrality, by future-oriented investments in special hydrogen-based vessels for container transport on inland waterways, and the systematic substitution of fossil fuels and the intelligent use of internal and external sources of green electricity in the operation of terminals.”
