Contargo and Flexport start first cooperation with e-trucks

Since May Contargo Road Logistics Hamburg has been transporting the containers of a well-known manufacturer of outdoor clothing and equipment by e-truck from the Port of Hamburg to a warehouse located in Ludwigslust, on behalf of Flexport. The customer explicitly wished for a low-emission transport solution, and this decision has significantly reduced the carbon footprint of its supply chain.

Contargo Road Logistics Hamburg is the first location of the Contargo Group with an all-electric fleet of e-trucks in last-mile operation. The e-trucks sometimes operate in three shifts around the clock and are charged at the company’s five own fast charging points.

“Introducing the first e-trucks in Hamburg has been a complete success,” says Christian Schäfers, Managing Director of Contargo Road Logistics Hamburg. “Since then, the demand for low-emission transport solutions has risen steadily. In the meantime, we now have 13 e-trucks in operation and all of them are very well utilised. Reports of a positive experience obviously get around.”

In this new partnership with Flexport, Contargo Road Logistics makes round trips with two to three containers daily in extended last mile transport, from the terminals in the Port of Hamburg to a warehouse in Ludwigslust (between Hamburg and Berlin). “Our trucks can easily cover the total distance of 280 kilometres without any need for recharging”, Schäfers explains.

Flexport is also satisfied: “Our cooperation with Contargo is a classic win-win situation”, says Daniel Boesch, Intermodal Procurement Manager Flexport. “We can offer our customer a reliable and sustainable transport solution, the customer’s product has a reduced CO₂ footprint, and Contargo gains another satisfied partner. We look forward to further expanding this climate-friendly cooperation.”
