Mannheim, 12 August 2013: Contargo GmbH & Co. KG have signed an agreement with APM Terminals (APMT) for the purchase of APM Terminals’ Neuss Intermodal Terminal GmbH (NIT). By this acquisition the service provider of intermodal hinterland transports is expanding its network at a central logistics site in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Representatives of both enterprises have signed the purchase agreement for the full acquisition of Neuss Intermodal Terminal GmbH (NIT). The agreement is subject to certain conditions and the actual transfer is expected during the last quarter of 2013. It has been agreed to observe confidentiality regarding the purchase price.

The divestment in Neuss is part of the new hinterland strategy for APM Terminals facilities in North West Europe. “Rather than investing in assets, APM Terminals will focus more on establishing partnerships to improve its hinterland connectivity“, says Martijn van Dongen, Regional Director Inland Services for APM Terminals. “By means of further and intense cooperation in the supply chain, APM Terminals aims to improve terminal efficiency and service levels“.

“With the acquisition of NIT we are reinforcing our strong operational position in Neuss. By taking over the terminal activities, Contargo will in future be providing transport, handling and depot services from one source in Neuss - an advantage which we definitely want to offer the many clients in the region”, says Thomas Löffler, Spokesman of the Contargo Management Board, commenting on this milestone in the development of the site.

NIT was founded in 2010 by APM Terminals and played a key role in its European Inland Services network. Recently the terminal has recorded approximately 100,000 container movements annually.
