Schierstein Bridge: Limited Use
After a full closure lasting two months, the Schierstein Bridge between Wiesbaden and Mainz has been open to traffic again since yesterday evening, but there are restrictions in place:
- Trucks over 3.5 metric tons are still not allowed to use the bridge.
- The maximum permitted speed is 40 kph, and in some places only one traffic lane can be used.
- This morning a 40-ton truck was stuck on the approach to the bridge, which is still closed to that weight class. Traffic was brought to a complete standstill for nearly one hour.
- Before the closure of the bridge, it was used by more than 80,000 vehicles per day.
