Contargo takes over Honkoop Barging
On 1 January 2023, Contargo took over the activities of the Dutch company Honkoop Barging. This includes the management and employees of the barge transport company as well as the transport contracts and customers contacts.

KG. “This acquisition offers us an interesting possibility to extend our service portfolio, especially in the area of Rotterdam, Antwerp, the Zeeland Province, and Ghent”.
Honkoop Barging is a well-known provider of barge transport services in the area of the ARA ports. The offer includes transport within the Port of Rotterdam, transport between the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp, and many daily container line transports between the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp on the one hand, and various destinations such as Ghent, Vlissingen and Terneuzen on the other.
Following the takeover by Contargo, the activities of Honkoop Barging will be integrated into the already-existing barge activities in the Benelux countries under the brand name Contargo Transbox.
The present Managing Director of Honkoop Barging, Henri Honkoop, will be Managing Director of Contargo Transbox in Belgium, and will be responsible within Contargo for Contargo Transbox in the Netherlands, together with Carsten Borchers.
With an annual transport volume of 2.1 million TEU, Contargo is one of the largest container logistics networks in Europe. Contargo integrates container transport between the western seaports, the German North Sea ports and the European hinterland. Contargo has 24 container terminals at its disposal in Germany, France and Switzerland and additional locations in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland. The enterprise also operates its own barge and rail lines. In 2021 the workforce of 1,200 employees achieved a turnover of 566 million Euro.
