New Name and New Ambitions for Contargo in Northern France

Press Release 13 Jan 2015

Bruay-sur-l'Escaut, 13 January 2015: The Contargo Group’s subsidiary in northern France has been operating as Contargo North France SAS since 1 December 2014 and has set up its headquarters at Bruay-sur-l'Escaut (Nord).

The Contargo Group has been active in Nord-Pas de Calais now for 18 years, and during this time it has experienced constant growth, both in its transport of containers by inland waterway and in the handling volume at its established terminal in Prouvy (Nord).

To strengthen its regional presence and support its development, the former CCES (Contargo Container Escaut Service SAS) has now been renamed Contargo North France SAS and has moved to new premises in Bruay-sur-l'Escaut, just north of Valenciennes.

2014: An eventful and record-breaking year
Despite considerable congestion problems at the Prouvy terminal, which had become too small, Contargo broke its inland navigation record in 2014 with 28,100 TEU (+ 6%) transported by barge between the Nord-Pas de Calais re-gion and the western seaports of Rotterdam, Antwerp, Dunkirk and Terneuzen. Thus Contargo confirmed its position as the leading waterway transport operator in the region. Handling also reached a record volume at 64,000 TEU.

In April 2014, the French subsidiary of the Contargo Group also obtained the public service delegation contract for the operation of the barge and rail terminal “Escaut Valenciennes Terminal” located in Bruay-sur-l'Escaut. Following final building work, which took several months, operation commenced officially on 1 January 2015
