New Joint Venture of Transbox and United Container Transport in Belgium

Antwerp, 15 September 2014: Contargo is further developing its container barge service to and from the ARA ports. A joint venture between Contargo’s container service Transbox and United Container Transport (UCT) has resulted in the formation of Transbox United BVBA, with its head office in Antwerp, which will commence operating on 1 October 2014.

“This cooperation enables us to bundle and expand our strengths, to the ad-vantage of our customers”, says Stefan de Wilde, Managing Director of Transbox United. The portfolio of the joint venture, consisting of intraport transports and ARA services between the western seaports, will be complemented among other things by a new scheduled line to Terneuzen, by handling in the Port of Antwerp, and by the Gosselin scheduled services to Deurne.

“Scheduled services to and from the Albert Canal and Flushing are possible additional extensions”, says Marcel Hulsker, also a Managing Director of Trans-box United. “In cooperation with Contargo, the joint venture will also be offering the services of Contargo Waterway Logistics and Contargo Network Service.”

United Container Transport holds a 45 percent share in the new company. It will be bringing its customers and personnel into the joint venture. The Contargo subsidiary Contargo Waterway Logistics holds a 55 percent share in the new enterprise Transbox United BVBA, through its brand Transbox. The new company offers daily container services Rotterdam – Moerdijk – Antwerp, as well as inter-terminal transport in the Port of Rotterdam. The purchase and sale of new and used containers is also part of the service.
