Yesterday evening the main south highway (Hochstrasse Süd) between Mannheim and Ludwigshafen was closed in both directions due to serious damage to the bridge.

This means that now only one bridge across the Rhine is available to traffic.

Serious traffic problems have to be expected.

It is not possible at present to say how long this situation will last.
