Direct rail connection between Rotterdam and Basel
Contargo starts Basel Westport Shuttle
Contargo AG has started a new rail-based shuttle connection between Rotterdam and the Germany-France-Switzerland border triangle, providing a direct link between the Port of Rotterdam and all major industrial areas in the Basel region.
The container train departs three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) from the terminal in Weil am Rhein, completing the journey to Rotterdam in only 18 hours and setting out on the return journey on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. In Rotterdam the shuttle calls at the CTT Pernis Terminal, which is connected via the PortShuttle with the container terminals on Maasvlakte II.
Service can be flexibly expanded
The Basel Westport Shuttle transports up to 88 TEU of maritime und continental cargo. Tank containers are transported as well as standard containers. Contargo is monitoring the utilisation rate of the connection, and will increase the number of departures if there is a corresponding demand. Thus the trimodal offer is substantially strengthened as a complement to inland navigation, and makes functioning solutions available to the market.
