Update: Rail line closure between Karlsruhe and Offenburg

The most recent information confirms that the rail line between Karlsruhe and Offenburg will be closed for at least two weeks. We are working at full speed to be able offer our customers transport via a “water bridge”.

Within the next few days we will be able to offer – direct – a barge from Emmerich to Basel, a barge from Duisburg to Basel, and a barge from Rotterdam to Basel. Each barge will be able to replace up to three trains.

We are also working on organising a regular “water bridge” which would be able to replace the cancelled trains on a regular basis until the end of the closure. We aim to transport the containers by train as far as Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, and transfer them there to barges which will continue on to Weil and Basel, thus bypassing the closed section of the line.

At present we are also looking into the possibility of alternative rail routes via the Black Forest and France. However, we are not too hopeful in this direction because of the situation with available capacities.

We ask for your understanding of the fact that despite all our efforts the agreed dates will not be able to be kept to, and that additional costs will probably have to be expected.

We will inform you as soon as we know more.
