25.06.2015 | This week, the three Swiss logistics and transport companies Contargo AG, Hupac SA and SBB Cargo AG jointly founded the planning company Gateway Basel Nord. This company will advance the project planning for the new container terminal Basel Nord.

After a joint application for funding support, in a second phase the terminal will be expanded for trimodal handling (road/rail/barge) by the addition of a new port basin of the Port of Switzerland, directly connected with the Rhine harbour of Kleinhüningen . The future Port Basin 3 will enable the efficient integration of inland waterway transport. The trimodal expansion may be an opportunity for additional partners to participate.

"Efficient goods handling for the bundling of transport modes is of central importance for Switzerland. The Port of Switzerland facilities are therefore an absolute strategic priority for supplying the country", explains Holger Bochow, Managing Director of Contargo AG.
